Our History Through The Years

Since 2000, our Christ-centered medical teams have brought vital care, training, and hope to Cambodia, transforming countless lives.

The mission began in June of 2000. At the request of Reverend Setan Lee of Kampuchea for Christ ( KFC ) and Jim Groen of Global Connection International ( GCI ), Dr. Mark Sheehan and Dr. Daniel Smith traveled to Phnom Penh, Cambodia to evaluate the medical conditions in Cambodia.

To gain a deeper understanding of the medical needs of the Cambodian people, Dr. Sheehan and Dr. Smith spent nine days visiting multiple hospitals and medical clinics. These included both government & health oriented officials; such as, the Minister of Health and the public medical school, the Phnom Penh Health Sciences Center. The Christian medical community and Christian Church Leadership organizations of the country were also examined.

On the last day of their visit they were introduced to Dr. Kendrick Kahler, a paraplegic, Christian, American- family practice physician who had previously committed to being a medical missionary in Cambodia. After a two hour visit and sharing of visions and prayers, they decided to work with Dr. Kahler and his CSI Clinic on the grounds of Preah Ket Maelea Hospital by bringing teams of medical professionals, medical equipment, and medication to support the work of the CSI Clinic.

Our History: A Timeline of Healing and Hope

From 2000-2004: The Vision Begins

  • 🧭🌍 2000 – First exploratory trip to Cambodia; CSI Clinic partnership established

  • 🩺💰 2000 – First medical team deployed and fundraising begins

  • 📦🔪 2001 – First 40-ft container of medical supplies shipped; first surgeries performed in remodeled ORs

  • ✈️❤️ 2001 – First patient brought to Denver for open-heart surgery

  • 🎓🩺 2002–2003 – Cambodian medical students brought to Denver for training

  • 🚚🏥 3 containers shipped and multiple outreach clinics held

From 2004-2010: Jeremiah’s Hope is Born

  • 🏛️✝️ 2004 – Christian Medical Ministry to Cambodia / Jeremiah’s Hope officially established as a 501(c)(3)

  • 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ 2005–2007 – Expanded medical missions with larger teams

  • 🤝❤️ 2007 – Partnership with French cardiac center begins; open-heart surgeries expand

  • 🏥🔄 2008 – CSI Clinic access lost; God opens new facility through Hope Worldwide

  • 🏨🔧 2009 – Hotel-to-surgical facility conversion begins

  • ✈️🫀 More patients brought to Denver for advanced surgeries

From 2010-2018: A Clinic of Our Own

  • 🏥🎉 2010 – New clinic opens on October 11

  • 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ Full Cambodian staff hired including physicians, nurses, admin, and support staff

  • ⚙️💼 Clinic becomes 90% self-sustaining

  • 🧳🩺 55 medical teams sent, treating 3,200+ patients

  • 🩻🔪 1,200+ surgeries performed, including 350+ open-heart surgeries

  • 🧪📚 Electrophysiology lab built and local physicians trained

  • 🫀🎓 9 National Cardiology Conferences hosted with 3,500+ attendees

  • 🚢📦 9 medical containers shipped

  • ✝️🧑‍⚕️ 3 physicians and 5 nurses come to Christ

From 2018-2025: Growth Through Challenge

  • 🦠🧑‍⚕️ 2020–2021 – Local staff maintains care during COVID when teams cannot travel

  • ✈️👩‍⚕️ 2022 – Medical teams resume

  • 🏛️🚫 2023 – Government forces clinic closure; new temporary facility opened in pediatric hospital within 2 weeks

  • 🏗️💰 2024 – Broke ground on new $4M surgical hospital in northwest Phnom Penh

  • 🩺📖✝️ Ongoing – Surgeries, nurse/physician training, and Christ-centered care continue
